How could any reasonably intelligent person not suspect that a QR Code, which instructs your computer to perform an action, is not an identity theft risk? When you instruct your computer to scan a QR you are also giving the QR permission to access whatever computer content the QR creator designed the QR to seek. The QR may give you access to a restaurant menu, but how do you know that's all it's doing? By scanning it you've instructed your phone to allow access, thereby bypassing all your phone's security measures. There is almost always an alternate means of obtaining the same information (web-site, clerk, phone number, etc.). It may be a bit slower or require more keystrokes but you are in control! If any entity requires me to scan a QR code to interact with it, I leave and never return!
